Train-the-Trainer: Teaching Dental Radiography in North Carolina
Please read the information below carefully and confirm you meet requirements before proceeding with Interest Form.
Course Overview
Prepare to become a qualified dental radiography instructor in North Carolina.
This hybrid continuing education course is designed for experienced dental professionals who wish to teach dental radiography in educational or workforce training settings. Participants will review current radiographic principles, radiation safety, infection control, instructional methodology, and competency evaluation while refining their own radiographic techniques.
The course combines self-paced online instruction with an intensive hands-on laboratory where participants will demonstrate competency in intraoral radiography and instructional calibration.
Upon successful completion of all course requirements, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion qualifying them to teach dental radiography in the State of North Carolina.

8 Hours Online Instruction
8 Hours Hands-On Laboratory
Applicants must meet ALL eligibility requirements before enrolling.
Professional Background
Applicants must currently meet ONE of the following:
Dentist
Current licensure
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
Dental Hygienist
Current licensure
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
Dental Assistant II
Associate or Bachelor's degree
Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program OR certification from a North Carolina-approved radiography course
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
Radiography Experience
Applicants must have documented experience in:
Intraoral dental radiography
Paralleling technique
Bitewing technique
Radiation safety
Infection control
Independent performance of radiographic procedures in a clinical setting
The following experience is strongly recommended:
Digital imaging systems (sensors or PSP plates)
Basic panoramic imaging
Pre-Assessment Requirement
Applicants must successfully complete a pre-assessment examination.
A minimum score of 80% is required before beginning the lab component
Upon Successful Completion
Participants who successfully complete all online modules, laboratory requirements, and achieve a minimum score of 80% on the final examination will receive a:
Certificate for Teaching Dental Radiography in the State of North Carolina
